Safety
Oaxaca is generally considered safe for women with a respectful culture. As always, stay in well lit areas and keep an eye on belongings. Oaxaca is relatively conservative—comfortable, modest clothing helps avoid unwanted attention, especially in smaller towns and religious sites.
Currency & Cash
Mexico uses Pesos
Credit Cards are widely accepted (Visa and MC work best)
Cash is still recommended for small cafes and market/street vendors
I recommend bringing $200 cash for emergencies and exchanging just a little to begin with.
Water
When traveling to another country, drinking bottled water is recomended. Better to be safe than to spend your vacation with an upset stomach!
Language
You'll likely find people who speak English, but knowing a few key phrases in Spanish is always helpful!
